Dr. John Carras is the Director of CSIRO Advanced Coal Technology. This research program covers the entire coal value chain from production and utilisation through to carbon capture and storage.

Dr. Carras joined CSIRO some 30 years ago where he has focused on energy related research. His own research has focussed on the emissions to the atmosphere from energy use including power stations and greenhouse gas emissions from coal mining. He notably worked with the IPCC to develop the guidelines for quantifying fugitive emissions of methane from coal mining.

Dr. Carras holds a PhD in physics from the University of Western Australia.
