Pakistan: an 80,000 barrels/day and 6,000 MW project in Thar desert - January 12, 2012
Led by TharPak, a U.S.-based consortium, the project consists in a Direct CTL facility (80,000 bpd capacity), a power plant (6,000 MW) and urea production, combined with a CCS operation. Investment is believed to exceed US$10b.
Ukraine: Plans to Build Substitute Natural Gas Plants - January 14, 2012
Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yuriy Boiko declared three SNG plants would be built in the country, after talks with Shell.
China: Huaneng has started methanol production in Gansu - December 22, 2011
Huating Coal Industry, a subsidiary of Huaneng, celebrated the completion of this 600kt/a methanol and 200kt/a polypropylen plant. Construction had started in June 2007 and production started on November 18, 2011. Capital expenditure is CNY3.5bn.
China: Sinopec to enter the Coal-To-Chemical sector - December 7, 2011
Sinopec announced its plan to invest about 21 billion yuan ($3.3 billion) for 51% stake in a coal-to-olefins joint project, with a capacity of 1.8 million tons of olefins. Decision by the end of this year.
India: Indian Oil ans BP to study a project of acetic acid produced from petcoke - Sept 23, 2011
Indian Oil and BP decided to study a 1 mt/year acetic acid to be produced from coal. In a memorandum of understanding, both companies project to create a 50:50 JV. Start-up should take place in 2015.
World: CTL Production to reach b/d1.7m by 2035 according to International Energy Agency - Nov. 2011
CTL is expected to see significant growth according to the International Energy Agency. From less than 0.2 mb/d to 1 mb/d in 2015 and 1.7 mb/d in 2035.
Indiana, USA - SNG 30-year contract approved by State Regulator - November 22, 2011
The $2.65b plant will be built and operated by Indiana Gasification LLC, a subsidiary of Leucadia Corp. Operation is planned to start by 2015.
The Regulatory Commission endorsed the 30-year contract to buy SNG produced by the plant.
The project still needs environmental permits and zoning approval, as well as a federal construction loan guarantee.
Zimbabwe - A 50,000 b/d CTL project - October 21, 2011
Lontoh Coal, a South African miner with projects in Zimbabwe, announced a plan for a 50,000 b/d facility. Capex is expected to reach $5.5b and commissioning to take place in 2017.
